Separation Anxiety

So far solid foods are a huge success!  Like parents, like son -- our Charlie is quite the little eater.  He not only "chews" and swallows the rice cereal, but actually grabs Jason's hand to try to get him to feed him faster.  It's hilarious.  After 3 nighs of rice cereal, we're moving on to peas tonight.  Wish us luck!
While I definitely put off the food as long as possible, I was looking forward to giving up the late night feeding.  Charlie has been going to bed each night at 8:00 for quite some time, but I would wake him up at between 10 and 11 for a "top off" to make it through the night.  Being that we get up every morning by 6:30, it was sometimes hard to stay awake for this feeding (Jason has some pretty funny stories of finding me passed out in the glider and Charlie eating away...).
Naturally, I thought that it would be a huge relief to put him down at 8:00 and not worry about another feeding until the next morning, and Friday night was great.  Jason and I watched TV until about 10:30 and then just went to bed.  Saturday night was a different story, though...
Charlie had a somewhat rough day, because tooth number 2 poked through.  He was a trooper but exhausted by 7:00, so I put him down a bit early.  Jason and I had a late dinner and were watching the race on TV when I looked up and noticed it was 9:52...and I didn't have to feed Charlie.  Translation:  I didn't get to go up and cuddle Charlie for another 8 1/2 hours!  I hadn't expected this feeling of loss.  I even considered continuing the late night feedings, just for my own benefit -- but figured not only would I regret it eventually, but that a longer continuous sleep was really what was best for Charlie.  Still though, Jason can attest to the fact that I was pretty mopey the rest of the evening.  Who would have thought I was the one that was so attached to the 10:00 snack?!
Last night, my little man gave me a bit of a reprieve.  He woke up around 11:00 mad at the world.  I think it was his teeth, but Jason suggested that I try to feed him, so I did.  It worked perfectly -- he calmed down and I got my cuddle.  Logically, I hope that this was a fluke, and Charlie sleeps from 8:00 until morning tonight and most nights, but I have to admit that I will kind of look forward to a late night feeding every once in a while...

The Six Month Milestone

It's official.  Charlie had his 6 month appointment this morning, and Dr. Tripp confirmed that he is perfect.

He was a trooper despite a ridiculously long wait due to computer issues, and he stopped crying fairly easily after his shots.  I went ahead and got the flu shot while we were there, and if his leg aches as much as my arm, he's going to be pretty fussy when he wakes up.  He always gets over his shots very quickly, so I haven't been too sympathetic in the past.  Hopefully I'm just a wimp, and he won't be as achey.

But, on to more fun stuff -- The Charlie Update!  Since 6 months is such a big milestone, I decided it would be appropriate to give a rundown of his measurements, characteristics, abilities, etc.  So here goes:

As of 9/11/09:
  • Weight - 17 lbs. 3 oz (50th percentile)
  • Length - 27 inches (75th percentile!)
  • Head - 44 cm (50th percentile)
  • Teeth - 1 (bottom left)
  • Hair - Minimal, but lots more than even a month ago
  • Birthmarks - Stork bites on back of neck, possibly a potato shaped birthmark on left shin
  • Naps - 2 per day (sometimes 3, but seldom)
  • Bedtime - 8:00
  • Waketime - 6:30
  • Favorite Food - Milk ;o) (we're starting rice cereal tonight)
  • Favorite Song - Old MacDonald (If anyone knows what noise a turtle makes, we'd love to add it to our repertoire.  Our farm currently has a horse, a cow, a donkey, a bull, a rooster, a hen, a chick, a pig, a dog, a cat, a rabbit, a mouse, a sheep, a goat, a bumble bee, a bird, a dove, an owl, a turkey, a duck, a frog, a fish, and a snake -- and on our farm the sound for snakes is the "bang-bang" of a shotgun!)
  • Favorite Dance - The Hokey Pokey
  • Favorite Toys - Ollie & Taggy
  • Favorite Game - Peek-a-Boo
  • Recent milestones

    • First tooth
    • Sitting up
    • Army crawl
    • Random regular crawl
    • Petting Otis
    • Taking toys out of box

  • Imminent milestones

    • Solid food
    • Second tooth
    • Consistent regular crawl

  • Hero: Daddy
  • Personality

    • Goofy - always smiling and laughing unless it's naptime or mom & dad have paid for professional pictures
    • Deliberate - he sees something he wants and goes after it, even it means following Otis around the living room for 10 minutes until Otis gives up
    • Ornery - unlike his 3 month pictures where he wouldn't smile at all, smiled for his 6 month pictures -- if his fist was in his mouth!
But most importantly, he is perfectly healthy and perfectly happy.  We are blessed beyond words.

6 Month Birthday Pre-empted by Mommy's Antics...

Yes, can you believe it?  Charlie is 6 months old today!  These have absolutely been the best 6 months of my life.  But, since his 6 month appointment isn't until Friday, I'm going to pre-empt a post focused on Charlie's growth, achievments, likes, dislikes, etc. with a little story that will outline exactly what the poor boy is going to have to deal with as he grows up.  Below is an email that I sent to Jason about 5 minutes ago...

Subject:  It's safe to say...

I didn't miss my calling as a plumber.

So, you know how my sink has been draining super slow lately. Well, obviously it's probably due to all the hair I'm losing. Since you'd mentioned that to get the plug out you have to unhook something down below, I decided to check it out. After a couple of tries, I figured out how to unhook the stopper pull and then remove the little bar so I could unhook the stopper itself. I pulled it out and it was absolutely disgusting, so I pulled the hair off and started to remove this weird black sludge stuff -- but I decided I wanted to get it really clean, so I rinsed it. In my sink. Yes, really. No, it did not occur to me that this would be unwise.

So, a minute later I bent down to put it all back together and heard water running to my right…out of the cabinet onto the floor. Yes, really. Amazingly, I got it cleaned up and I got the sink put back together. So, it appears that while I have the skills to be a plumber, I lack the understanding that water flows through open holes…

Happy Wednesday.

Family Vacation

Since 7:00 AM is prime playtime at our house, I have become an even more avid fan of Good Morning America in the past 6 months.  As much as I love the show though, their recent series on "Staycations" has annoyed me -- not because I have anything against having fun at home, but because the term "Staycation" grates on my nerves.

That said, Jason, Charlie and I had the best Staycation ever this weekend!  We had originally hoped to spend the long weekend in El Paso for Charlie's first visit to Grandma and Grandpa's house, but my ongoing job uncertainty made the investment a bit irresponsible right now.  Next, we talked about boating up the Cooper River and splitting a cabin on the lake with some friends, but when that didn't pan out we had a 3 day weekend with seas too large for off-shore fishing and no plans!

At first we didn't know what to do, but slowly the days and evenings filled up with the most relaxing and fun activities I could imagine.

We kicked off Friday night with dinner at home with our friends Chris & Sophie.  They're little boy, Calvin, is 14 months older than Charlie, so we were able to swap tales and hear about all sorts of upcoming adventures we can expect -- plus we shared some out-of-this world chocolate-raspberry cupcakes.

Due to poor planning on Jason's and my part, Saturday morning ended up being just the 4 of us on the boat -- and it was so much fun!  We ran up the Cooper River until the GPS map ended (come to find out we were only 6 miles from the lake) and slowly boated back home.  Charlie & Otis loved the day on the water, and I even remembered to bring our lunch (unlike last weekend).  That evening, after Goodnight Moon, prayers and kisses, Jason and I shared a fabulous steak dinner on the porch.

Sunday we went to church, swung by KFC to pick up lunch, and headed back to the water, this time with Chad, Corrisa and Vicki (no Otis -- he was still recovering from Saturday's trip).   We headed out through the Wappoo Cut and anchored at a sandbar where Charlie went skinny dipping for the first time!

Two boat trips by the Peninsula put me in the mood for an afternoon downtown, so I convinced Jason that Monday would be the perfect day to head into Charleston.  After a fabulous lunch at the new Taco Boy, we parked on King Street and explored all our favorite haunts, including of course Ye Olde Ice Cream Shoppe.  Charlie has yet to try rice cereal, but he loves vanilla icecream with strawberry swirls.

Next we took Charlie to Waterfront park for the first time where Mom made him cry when I sprayed him in the eye by putting his feet in the fountain (oops!), and Dad saved him just in time when we thought it would be a great idea to get a picture of him sitting by himself on the swing (oops again!).  Luckily, our Charlie is a very solid and very forgiving little boy.

Finally, we capped off our weekend with a fabulous dinner at Basil with Chad & Corrisa, whom we'd run into between shops.

I honestly can't imagine a more perfect weekend with my boys, so while the term is still grating, I have to say that GMA is on the right track with their "Staycations".

The good life...

     Such a sweet little tushy....

Zzzzzzz...

It feels like a miracle.  Charlie is home today, and I am actually getting stuff done -- lots of stuff!  We're having some friends over for dinner, and I've been able to set the table, bathe Otis, prep dinner, join 2 calls, shower and even blow my hair dry!

The source of all my productivity?  Naps!  My little Charlie is a rockstar napper now.  He was down for 2 1/2 hours this morning and has been down for 1 1/2 this afternoon.

A few months ago we were lucky to get 45 minutes out of him and getting him to fall asleep was pure torture (for the whole family).  But now, as soon as he's sleepy we just swaddle him up, close the shutters, break into a lengthy (and quite random) version of Old MacDonald and down he goes.  Obviously he doesn't always sleep for this long, but we rarely have naps shorter than an hour anymore -- and if he wakes up mid-nap, sometimes he'll even fall back asleep! (For all you non parents out there, trust me, this is a huge milestone!)

The funniest part is the way he gradually comes back to consciousness.  The other day Jason peeked in when he got home from work, and Charlie was in a little baby trance just staring at the side of his crib.  Jason came down and got me, we both watched and giggled for a bit, tapped him on the back, and he rolled over and grinned.

While that's the funniest, the best part is the ability to count on productive periods of the day.  This morning I was able to schedule a call for his predicted naptime -- and it worked! Almost every evening Jason and I can count on having 8 PM to 10 PM to ourselves for chores, chats with neighbors (love our new super-long range monitor) or even a quiet glass of wine by the pond.  It's a whole new world!

So yes, I just spent the last 15 minutes or so of Charlie's afternoon nap flat out bragging.  I have a baby who sleeps!  It's a minor miracle.  But...now he's awake, so off I go to get my grin!

(Thank goodness I don't believe in superstitions or jinxes, huh?)

Sense of Self

It occurred to me over the weekend that there could be some question regarding the title of my blog, "Charlie's Mom".  Obviously, yes, that's me -- but I want to mitigate concerns anyone may have that over the past 5 months I have lost my identity and become a "Stepford Mom".  :o)

I define myself as much more than a mom -- a Christian, a wife, a daughter (in law), a sister (in law), an aunt, a friend, a neighbor, a redhead (natural for at least a while longer), a professional, etc, etc.

But the thing is, since the day Charlie was born I've felt like Miss America, the President of the United States, the Biggest Loser, a Lottery Winner...like I've achieved a role that I worked for, wished for and dreamed of for so long.  I love to be referred to as "Charlie's Mom"!

Also, as funny as he is, I'm not sure Jason would enjoy me blogging about his daily activities, and I guarantee that noone is interested in the ins and outs of looking for jobs, setting up Business Expo booths or washing sheets.  :o)

In that vein, here is a picture of Charlie driving the boat with Jason on Sunday -- he's the cutest first mate I've ever seen!

Sunday, Sunday, Sunday...

It's amazing how much can happen in one day.  Granted we are up every morning before the sun, but still...  Our morning pre-church was fairly uneventful, other than the fact that we got out of the house on time to be there 40 minutes earlier than usual for a meeting!  I finally realized that despite any crazy ideas I may have, it takes me a full hour to get ready and pump, and that's with Jason watching Charlie.

Charlie fell asleep on the way to church and transitioned beautifully out of the carseat into the sling to sleep through our meeting.  Then five minutes before church was about to start, he woke up and wanted to play!  As we were talking in the hall with a couple other moms, one of them asked if he'd gotten a tooth.  I said, "No, but he's sure been working on it for a long time."  She asked if I was sure, and upon further investigation, yes, Charlie has his first tooth!  It's his front, lower left.  Now, I have to admit that I have mixed emotions about this milestone.  Deep down I truly want him to stay a baby forever, I admit it.  But even worse than that, I missed it!  Someone else had to point out to me my son's first tooth.  It's completely irrational, but I feel like I missed out.  Realistically I will miss a number of Charlie's firsts over the years because he has a loving father, Miss Donna and a wonderful extended family who allow me to have some time to myself -- but I'm not too thrilled with it.

My mood did improve a few minutes into church, though.  Charlie was fairly well-behaved (aka drowned out) during the singing, but Jason had to take him out as soon as the hymns were over.  As I was sitting there wondering if Jason was going to hear any of the message, I felt an urgent tap on my shoulder, looked back and saw Jason motioning for the diaper bag.  I grabbed it and met him in the hall, thinking that we'd had a blowout.  Luckily I had 2 spare onesies in the bag, so I assumed we'd be fine.  Well, not so much.  As prepared as I was with Charlie's wardrobe, I had nothing for Jason.  Charlie had peed all over Jason's shirt.  There was a wet stain the size of a salad plate.  Of course, I immediately started laughing.  We took Charlie to the lobby and changed him and agreed that not only was Jason uncomfortable, he quite possibly smelled -- we should go home.  There was one problem though, in my rush to save the day I'd left our Bibles at our seats.  So, while Jason hid in the hallway, I walked in and grabbed our Bibles.  I'm sure everyone around us wondered #1 - why were leaving 5 minutes into the service and #2 - why I was visibly laughing about it.

But wait, there's more!  When we got home Jason and Charlie played on the floor while I made lunch -- and Charlie crawled!  Talk about a banner day. (Yes, I missed this one, too.)  He only made it about a half crawl, but later this afternoon he's made it about 1 1/2.  He still prefers to roll his way around, but I think he'll be crawling like crazy within a couple days.  We've already moved the coffee table out of the way, and I'll probably start stashing away valuables and breakables soon.

I'm not sure I can handle any more "firsts" this week. It's all happening so fast!

Unfortunately, instead of taking a picture of Charlie crawling I accidentally took a movie...so this is just my latest favorite picture  As you can probably guess, he's looking up at Daddy.  :o)

Here we go...

I feel like this first post should be profound, but I'm not feeling it...  Throughout my life I've tried time and again to keep diaries, journals, etc, but never been able to follow through. This is my first try since Charlie, though, so  I'm optimistic that having an infinitely more interesting (and adorable) topic will keep me going -- that and the fact I have some grandmothers and aunts desperate for the latest Charlie news.

So, what's Charlie up to? At this exact moment he's napping (woohoo!).  He's actually improved his napping skills exponentially over the past 2 weeks.  Donna (his babysitter) and I are consistently getting a 2 to 3 hour and a 1 hour to hour and half nap out of him each day -- the order varies, but we don't care!

In addition to napping, Charlie is trying so very hard to learn to crawl.  Unfortunately, he struggles with coordinating the straight arms and straight legs so he either army crawls (like Otis) or does a very convincing impression of a bull dozer -- which is hilarious to watch, but I'm worried he'll end up with rug burns on his forehead.

Charlie will be 6 months old in 2 weeks and based on my hit or miss reading (I was much better about keeping up with things while pregnant than I am as a mom!) he seems on track.  We plan to start solids in the next couple weeks -- and when I say "solids", I mean the rice cereal and vegetables that babies are supposed to eat, not the ice cream, yogurt, potatoes and barbecue potato chips that he has been sampling over the past couple weeks.  Jason and I just can't help ourselves when he begs, but the recent increase in spitting up has convinced me that we need to show a bit more self control -- 2 outfits before noon is ridiculous!

Well, based on my wonderful video monitor (which I highly recommend to all moms out there -- I'm planning to use mine until Charlie goes to college), it appears that my little man will be waking up soon.  Off I go for cuddles and kisses -- a fabulous experience with Charlie if you don't mind losing handfuls of hair and aren't opposed to open-mouth, milk-breath kisses that sometimes turn into chomps on your nose or chin. I absolutely adore them!

March 24, 2009

Now that you're here, Charlie, it's increasingly hard to find time to journal.  So much has happend over hte past 11 days.

BaBa and PaPa arrived on the 12th and fell immediately in love with you.  On Saturday the 14th, Daddy went with them to Babies R Us to buy you some boy clothes -- and came back with three huge shopping bags full of clothes and baby gear.  They had so much fun.

Saturday evening wasn't nearly as fun, though.  You went on a hunger strike that lasted from about 3 in the afternoon until 3 in the morning.  Mommy, Daddy and BaBa were beside ourselves trying to figure out what to do.  I was so relieved when you finally ate, but the relief was short-lived.  After the 3 AM feeding you wouldn't eat again.

We spent much of Sunday morning on the phone with the nurses hotline and finally resorted to pumping and feeding you a bottle around noon.  You started eating again that evening, but Daddy and I went ahead and met with a lactation consultant Monday morning.  Miss Pam helped us resolve some latching issues and helped me to relax.  We've been consistently improving since then.

Tuesday we had your first doctor's appointment.  It went very well.  Dr. Tripp said that you were "perfect."  We have another appointment this Thursday to make sure you're gaining weight.  I'm confident that it will go well with how you've been eating.

On Wednesday we went to a breastfeeding support group held by Miss Pam and discovered that you were eating about 1 1/2 ounces at a time, which is great.  We go back again tomorrow, and I think you will be up to 2 1/2 ounces.

After group we drove down to Isle of Palms with Daddy, BaBa and PaPa.  BaBa and PaPa are considering taking their family vacation here in Charleston this summer and renting a beach house.   After that you had your first meal at Poe's on Sullivan's Island (one of Mommy & Daddy's favorites) then we were off to the airport to pick up Aunt Ashley.

She is expecting her first baby in the fall, so you should have a cousin very close to your age -- or maybe two.  Aunt Ashley is pretty nervous that she may be having twins.

We spent Thrusday relaxing -- which was much needed.  You and I are supposed to be taking it easy.

Then Friday we went to the Outlet Mall and bought you a few more cute clothes.  You are pretty well set until you are 9 months old or so.

Saturday we relaxed again and tried to get you some extra time with BaBa and PaPa, because they had to leave for home early Sunday morning.  We spent he rest of the day relaxing with Daddy and Aunt Ashley.

Monday Daddy had to go back to work, so we met him for lunch.  Then we took Aunt Ashley down to the two Baby Bloomers stores in Mt. Pleasant.  It's hard to believe that last fall we were just planning and dreaming and picking out furniture and now you're here!

After we dropped Aunt Ashley off at the airport, we came home and had dinner just the three of us.  It was strange, but nice.  I suppose we'll start getting into a routine.

Today was our first day just the two of us.  We went for a nice walk in your Baby Bjorn and played in your Baby Gym.

My project for the week is to get you to go down for a nap in your crib, cradle or pack n play without too much crying.  It's very hard to leave you and let you cry yourself to sleep, but it's supposed to be the best thing for you in the long run.   We'll just have to see how I do with some time.

You barely slept at all after your noon feeding, so you were exhausted after your 3:00 and went right to sleep...not sure exactly what this will mean for tonight...

March 13, 2009

We are home now.  Daddy and I brought you home yesterday around lunchtime.  You did wonderfully well in the car and seemed to just love your swing when we got home.

We had a fairly relaxing afternoon until about 4:30 when all of the neighbors started to drop by.  You met Chad's mom, sister and brother-in-law, Lakely's mom, Avery's mom and Garret, and got to see Amanda, Chad and Corrisa again.

Then, the three of us loaded up and went to the airport to pick up BaBa and PaPa.  They were so surprised and excited that you were there to welcome them to Charleston.  As expected, they both fell in love with you at first site -- how could they resist?

Otis is doing extremely well adapting to your arrival.  He's not 100% sure what to think of you, but he's very curious and he loves licking your toes.  I think the fact that you had a rough night last night sleep-wise was a bit confusing for him, but he's doing great.

Today we're all just taking it easy and sharing Charlie time.  It's so nice to have you home with us!

March 11, 2009

As you can probably tell by the deterioration of my handwriting yesterday, either the medication or the exhaustion kicked in.  To continue:

After you were born, Daddy went over to the exam table with you and you were 22 inches long, 8 lbs. 1 oz and had a 1 minute Apgar score of 8 and a 5 minute score of 9.  Essentially, you were perfect.

As they stitched Mommy back up, Daddy went with you to the nursery where they did hearing tests and blood tests and treated your eyes, and where Daddy got to give you your first bath!

After all that, I met up with you and Daddy in our room.  We were all pretty exhausted by this time -- around 2:00 AM, but Daddy called BaBa and Mommy called Grandma.  They were both so excited to meet you!

Yesterday was a busy first day for you.  They took you to the nursery where you met your pediatrician, plus you and I spent a good part of the day working on breastfeeding.  Despite the learning curve, you've had plenty of wet and dirty diapers, which means that you are getting plenty of nutrients and doing great.

You also had lots of visitors yesterday.  Uncle Chris and Aunt Chrissy brought Carter, Cole, Cade and Camden in the afternoon.  Then Chad & Corrisa brought you a stuffed Marline.  They agreed that you are perfect (luckily they missed your little crying bout in the early afternoon).  Not long after they left, Paul & Sientay arrived with Ben and Eva and chicken sandwiches from Zaxby's.  Then a bit later, Sam showed up and finally, Bob & Donna.

Everyone was charmed by you and thrilled to meet you, and Daddy and I are so proud to introduce you to everyone.  We are having so much fun!

March 10, 2009

Well, you decided to make your appearance among quite a bit of drama last night, my little Charlie!

You and I did an amazing job of dialating and effacing.  We were 3 cm by lunch, 6 by mid-afternoon and 8 by early evening -- then it all stopeed.  We stuck at 8 cm until 9:30 that night, and during this time your heartrate would drop down to the 50s and 60s every few contractions.  This was really scary and frustrating for me and Daddy.

Dr. McClusker told us that while we had all done our best, it was time to opt for a c-section.  I was disappointed because I really thought that if we just waited a while longer, maybe we could make it happen naturally -- but Daddy and I agreed that a c-section was the best choice for you.

It didn't take long at all for them to prep me for surgery and before I knew it I was extremely medicated, draped and waiting.  The next thing I knew, Dr. McClusker said, "this baby has linebacker shoulders," and she had a hard time squeezing them through the incision.  Right then I finally admitted to myself how much I wanted you to be a boy -- especially if you have extremely broad shoulders.  And you are!  My perfect little Charles Patrick!

March 9, 2009

We all woke up around 4 AM because Otis was getting sick.  Without getting too technical, I had reason to believe my water broke.

I laid with Otis for about an hour -- we think he got into something outside yesterday -- and around 5:00 I called the doctor.  She suggested that we go ahead and come in to get checked out, so Daddy and I here, to the hospital, around 6:15 or so, and based on preliminary tests my water has broken, so right now we're just waiting to see what happens next.

Looks like we should meet you face to face in the next day or so.

March 6, 2009

No changes at our doctor's appointment today.  It looks like we have at least a few days left.

That's actually a good thing, because Otis hurt his neck Wednesday and can't turn his head to the right.  He's in an awful lot of pain, but should be feeling better soon according to the vet.  It will be easier on all of us if the Bug is 100% when you arrive.  Shouldn't be long...

March 3, 2009

Two weeks to go!  Everyone keeps telling us that you could come at any time, but I really feel like we have some time left.  It just seems like I would feel different if labor were imminent, but I guess you never know.  We're definitely hoping you come by the 17th or 18th, though -- otherwise BaBa and PaPa wont' get to see much of you before they have to go home.

Everything will happen when it should though -- it's just so strange knowing that our life is going to change completely very soon, but not knowing when...

February 27, 2009

Last night was our breastfeeding class.  It's amazing how much better it is for you than formula -- not that formula is bad.  Breastfeeding is just so much better.

It is definitely my plan to breastfeed, but from everything I've learned we might have a bit of a learning curve.  We'll figure it out, though.

Today Daddy is meeting us at our weekly doctor's appointment then we're taking Otis to the beach.  Daddy had to work late Wednesday evening, so he gets the whole afternoon off.

Then tomorrow is our birthing class.  I hope it's as good as last night's class.  We definitely have a lot to learn, but Daddy and I are enjoying it and really looking forward to your arrival -- should be within the next 2 to 2 1/2 weeks!

Tonight Daddy and I have our CPR/First Aid class.  Hopefully these are skills we'll never need, but we want to be sure to be prepared.

It's hard to believe how close we're getting.  I've been wondering so much about you.  I can't wait to get to know you.  What will make you laugh?  What will be your favorite toy? What kind of foods will you like/dislike?  Will you like to swim?  Will you like to read? Who will be your best friend?  What will you want to be when you grow up?  Will you be an early bird or a night owl?  Will you be good at math?  Will you be shy or outgoing?

Obviously it will take years to learn all these things about you -- and many of the answers will change over time.  But still, I can't wait to meet you and start getting to know you.  Soon...

We had the hospital tour two days ago.   It seems very nice and comfortable.  You will spend the first 48 hours of your life at Summerville Medical Center then come home with Mommy and Daddy.

This next week we have our CPR class on Wednesday evening, and Daddy is going to try to get your toybox finished before he leaves for Daytona.  Then next weekend is your SC Shower -- you will really be here before we know it.  It's so hard to believe!

I had your 33 week appointment today.  My blood pressure is fine and your heart rate is in the 150s.  I've gained 21 pounds (that the doctor knows about -- I actually gained about 5 before my first appointment) and we don't have any swelling or other issues.  My back hurts sometimes, but Amy, the PRN, said that was perfectly normal, so we're doing great!

Amy also said that you're currently positioned head down, so the movements I feel up high are your kicks and the ones I feel down low are your punches.  You are moving a lot lately, which is fun.  I can pretty much count on you moving after I eat.  Everything is going perfectly and in just 6 to 7 weeks you'll be here!
